Zoe's Sweat Test came back normal. No cystic fibrosis. Thanks goodness!
The next step will be an MRI. I just spoke with Zoe's Endocrinologist about it wanting to know how the procedure is done and also what exactly she'll be looking for. She said that they will have to put Zoe to sleep (ahhh!) because she can't move AT ALL during the scan. She said that an anesthesiologist and a sleep person (there was a technical name but I can't remember it) will be in the room with the doctors to watch over Zoe to make sure she's okay. I get to be in the room with her up until the scan starts, then I have to leave. I will need a box of tissues I'm sure. The doctor said that the whole thing will take most of the day, not the scan itself but getting it all set up and then waking Zoe up and stuff.
Then we talked about what the doctor will be looking for from the scan. She said that she wants to see the pituitary gland (for a definition and picture see here) and the parts right above it to look for abnormalities. If there are abnormalities then this might give us some better insight as to why Zoe isn't growing and how we can fix it. The pituitary gland is what produces growth hormones so it'll be interesting to see what it looks like in Zoe. Hopefully there won't be an abnormality, of course, but we're still just trying to rule things out before starting Growth Hormone Therapy.
The MRI isn't scheduled yet. I'll keep you posted.
