Mike couldn't go with me because he had a big presentation at work so my sister Megan (who just barely moved to Houston) came up for the day. She was quite the life saver.
Zoe was a little cranky by the time we got to the hospital at 11:00 because she was hungry and tired (she missed her morning nap because she won't sleep when she's hungry, and she was hungry because she had to have an empty stomach for the procedure...).
When we got to the radiology department a nurse put lotion on the top of Zoe's feet to numb them. We had to leave that on for a full hour for it to take effect. Here are some pictures of Zoe and Megan playing on the hospital bed while we were waiting out the hour. If you look carefully you can see the lotion and tape on Zoe's feet. Also, Zoe sucked on her bunny all day to help satisfy the want of food in her mouth.
After the hour was up Zoe got her IV and once they put the medicine in it she was asleep within about two seconds. It was all really fast. I was in the MRI room with her at this point and was holding her when they put the medicine in. After she was asleep I laid her down on the MRI bed, gave her a quick kiss and was ushered out. This is when Megan being there was so helpful. She could tell I was pretty upset about seeing Zoe put under so she told me stories and kept my mind off of it for about an hour and a half. That's how long we waited. Ahhh!
Finally a nurse came and got us and told us Zoe was already waking up. What?! He was so casual about it but I was thinking No! Zoe needs to be holding her bunny when she wakes up and she'll be scared if I'm not there. We got into the room just in time. She hadn't quite opened her eyes yet but was reaching around for her bunny. I gave it to her and was able to let her know I was there before she was fully aware of things. Whew. The nurses said she woke up a lot faster than the kids normally do. The nurses usually can get all the needles and stuff out of the kids before they wake up but Zoe happened to be awake for all of that. It's cool, she was so out of it that it didn't really matter. In fact, she acted like a drunk little baby. It was really funny and entertaining.
We were able to go home right away and Zoe was so hungry that she kept eating the rest of the day. By the time we got home she was acting fine and played and slept normally.
So, the day went well but I'm very glad it's over. We were told we should get the results early next week.
Megan's birthday is next week so while she was here we had a little mini birthday party for her. Happy early birthday Megan and thanks again for saving me yesterday!
Zoe, what a big girl you are to go through all that so well. I love you!
ReplyDeleteMegan, Happy Birthday early! I love you, too! I'm glad you were with Melanie and Zoe.
