White Rock 'n' Roll 10 Mile Race

After running three marathons and one half marathon in three months I decided I needed a break. From racing, not running. I've been running quite a bit actually over the past couple of months and it has been great. I haven't been following a schedule or training program, I've just been going out and doing how much I want, how fast I want, when I want.

When Mike's brother, Doctor Jim, who has recently started running, told me he was going to run the White Rock 'n' Roll last Saturday I decided I wanted to do it too. But I had to one up the doc. He ran the 5 mile race and I ran the 10 miler. :)

It was great because I went out there with no expectations except for the things I told myself the night before the race:

-10 miles is SO much easier than a marathon. Go get em'.
-When I was running the Cowtown marathon I was killin' it for the first half. This would be less than that. Go kill it.
-10 miles is SO much easier than a marathon. I know, you already told me.
-Of course, have fun.

Well, I did have fun. And I did good--for me. I ran it in 1:41:10. My pace is getting a little faster. But it's still not really fast. I think I'm going to start working on speed now. Maybe. We'll see.

Later that night my friend, Sheri, texted me to see if I wanted to go for a bike ride. I really wanted to veg on the couch but decided a bike ride might be fun (on the new bike I got for my birthday!!). So we went out and did 7.8 miles and a lot of hills. I couldn't walk for two days after that. Whew. But it was fun!

What a great Saturday!
