Lisa, Megan, and I ran our first 5k race on Saturday. It was SO much fun--especially the end of the race. :) We ran the 3.2 miles in 35 minutes 38 seconds which is a pace of 11 minutes 28 seconds a mile. This beat all of the goals we went out there with. First of all, we all just wanted to finish the race. Then we talked about how nice it would be to not come in last place. But ultimately here were our goals: Lisa wanted to finish under 36 minutes, Megan wanted to finish under 38 minutes, and I wanted to finish under 45 minutes. We place numbers 466, 468, and 469 (somebody finished at the same time we did) out of 1,107 people. Yessss.
This is Saturday morning right before the race. There was a 10k race that started 20 minutes before our 5k. In this picture we are waiting for the 10k to start and it was SO cold.
These are the 10k racers right before they headed off. It was fun to be there cheering them on when they started.
If you look closely towards the left you can see me, Lisa, and Megan in the crowd (we're looking at the camera smiling). We were towards the back and had to walk a while after the horn went off because there were so many people.
We finished! Mike couldn't get a picture of us at the finish line because it was right at the beginning of a long bridge that we then had to walk over before we could get to him. However, the end of the race was the best part. We were SO tired and SO ready for the race to be over (I know, all of you marathon and ultra marathon runners are rolling your eyes) but as soon as we saw the finish line all three of us kicked it into high gear and sprinted to the end. It was awesome.
We had the best looking (and cutest--Zoe) support crew. I'm sure Lisa and Megan completely agree.
Next on the agenda: a 10k race!
I think I see you - with your heads thrown back?
ReplyDeleteYes, that's us!
ReplyDeleteI really am impressed since I wouldn't be able to run half a mile!
ReplyDeleteI would have preferred Brad Pitt, but whatever :)
ReplyDeleteOK, Lisa, that is funny!!
ReplyDeleteI know I have said this before, but I have funny children. You all have good sense of humors.
ReplyDeleteWay to go girls! I'm so missing running right now. I'm not a pregnant and working out kind of gal. I will hit it hard this summer when the baby gets here. We should so plan a race together since you will be back in Dallas soon. What do you say?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! SOOO Awesome. I remember my first 5k well. I was happy to finish, too. 10k next? Be careful, or maybe you'll end up in Scotland with me and dad next summer running a 95 mile....
ReplyDeleteWe are so proud of you. You have all come so far is a short period of time. You are naturals!
ReplyDeleteCome run the 10K we are running with our ward on May 10th. Keep up the good work!
