Camping

This weekend we took Zoe on her very first camping trip! We went to a place called Erwin Park in McKinney and met up with a lot of Mike's family for the adventure. We had a blast! Zoe loved having so much space to roam around. There is a bike/hike path that went through our campsite and Zoe kept making her way onto it and almost got hit by bikers a couple of times.

The only thing I could have done without during the trip were the huge, thick, red daddy long legs that infested our tent. We kept finding them both inside and outside our tent. We think we might have put our tent on a nest of them or something 'cause they were seriously EVERYWHERE and we were seriously FREAKED OUT. I'm convinced it happened to only our tent because both Mike and I are so horribly afraid of spiders.

Besides the spiders we had fun hanging with family, eating s'mores, and telling scary stories. Here are some pictures of the weekend:

Zoe testing out the sleeping bags in our living room the night before we left for the trip.

After we got the tent set up Zoe and I tried to cool down and relax a little.

Zoe and Emma playing ball.

Mike had a really good idea to bring our Cocomotion for hot chocolate in the morning. But the power outlet in the car wasn't strong enough to get the thing going. So we had hot chocolate the old fashioned camping way...water heated over the campfire.

Zoe loving the big field.

Mike and Zoe playing with the really big soccer ball that Blake brought for the kids.

Zoe, Viki, and I checked out the hiking trail in the morning.

Madison and Ethan were being goofs hopping around like frogs.

All the cousins were recruited to help shake out the tarps and tents. As you can see, they had a great time doing it.

  1. How fun!!! That soccer ball is HUGE! ...and spiders? Ew. I would not have been able to sleep at all. I would have felt like something was crawling on me even if nothing was! Seems like you guys had a fabulous time!!

  2. Looks like you guys had a blast! I am absolutely afraid of spiders. Madi has to kill them for me. Before Madi was around I would just put cups over them and Greg would eventually take the spider away. It was when Greg was in CA for two years in the military, he would come home one weekend a month. Sometimes the spiders would stay there for weeks (under the cups). It is a good thing Madi kills them for me, since Greg will be in Afghanistan for one year.
