On their way home from Dallas the Saturday after our 15k race, Adam and Jen were in a pretty bad accident. Adam was cut up, bruised, and a little battered. But Jen unfortunately ended up in a hospital in Houston. She was in pretty bad shape but after two weeks in the hospital is finally home, doing well, and is expected to have a full recovery. The morning after the accident, Zoe and I headed down to Houston to be with Adam and Jen at the hospital. Jen was in the ICU for the most part of the first week there and only two people were allowed in her room at a time. There were lots and lots of visitors so Jen asked me to take pictures in the waiting room so she could see what was going on. So...this is for Jen:
My mom on the phone giving updates
Zoe coloring
My Uncle Tom
My cousin Jen, her friend Britta (?), my brother John
John telling an interesting story
Snack time
Hugs!
Adam having a quick snack then it's nap time for him.
Adam and his buddies.
Attempting to get Zoe to take a nape. Didn't work.
This is what Zoe does when I tell her to close her eyes.

Watching movies and coloring
And now (with permission from Jen) here are some Jen pictures:

Jen finally got moved from the ISMU (intermediate surgical medical unit)...also known as the ICU into her own room. Yay! Zoe is enjoying the comfy chair in Jen's room.

Mike made it down to Houston for the weekend and was able to see Adam and Jen a couple of times. This was our last visit with them before heading back to Dallas.
And now (with permission from Jen) here are some Jen pictures:

And now, a quick shout out to my Aunt Jan who watched Zoe for a full day and half a night so that I could be with Adam and Jen. Thank you, Jan!!!!!
After getting a titanium plate put in the bone around her eye.

Megan and I were trying to come up with something cute to do with Jen's hair. hehe Don't worry, this one didn't last long.

2 Things:
ReplyDelete1. Does Zoe color in the lines in that coloring book? Those coloring pages looked pretty amazing for a 2-year-old!
2. Zoe seriously look like a (toy) doll in the "Zoe is enjoying the comfy chair in Jen's room" picture. It's just the way her face and hair are, I think.
1. It does look like that, huh? That's really funny. Zoe got lots of help coloring that week from all the visitors.
ReplyDelete2. Thank you!!!
wow! wishing you a speedy recovery jen!
ReplyDeleteMelanie--seriously, this post had in laughing and crying. I hadn't seen some of the pics yet--like my hairdo.
ReplyDeleteFor all that read this post, I hope they read this comment too to know that Melanie was the ABSOLUTE BEST throughout this ordeal. Everyone has said so. Even my girlfriends that came to visit were talking about how awesome Melanie and Zoe were.
So glad they are both doing well. Jen seems like such a good sport!
ReplyDeleteMelanie, you are amazing. You are such a good friend and your family is lucky to have you. You are such a blessing to those around you and it shows.
By the way, you look GREAT! All that running is paying off!! xoxo
You almost make me want to go to the hospital.
ReplyDeleteMelanie, you are the best! I'm sad I wasn't able to see Adam and Jen. Thanks for the post and pictures.
ReplyDeleteJen, I'm ready for that wedding dress party whenever you are...
