Our first Sunday to go to church here we found out that there are two other families from our ward that live in our cul-de-sac. Awesome.
That next Monday night there was a knock on our door and it was one of our neighbor families from the ward welcoming us with a plate of cookies. Not only cookies...but snickerdoodles. Those are my favorite!!!
Then a couple of days later I was out running with Zoe in the jogger and we stopped by a park for Zoe to play. There were some other people there with their kids. After a while this girl said to me, "Are you in the 3rd ward?" (that's the ward we're in now). What?! She recognized Zoe from church on Sunday. So we got talking and the conversation quickly turned to running (I was wearing my running clothes...) and it turns out that she and her husband both do triathlons, there is a guy in our ward who is also running the San Antonio marathon this weekend, Sheri (the girl I was talking to) is planning on running the Cow Town marathon (I'm doing that one too!), and there are a handful of other runners in the ward. Yay!!! I was so excited with this information!
Then this past Sunday I met Keith, the guy who is running the San Antonio marathon. It turns out that this is also his first marathon and we both have the same goal times. So hopefully we'll be able to run together and cheer each other on. Yay!
Then on Monday morning, the Relief Society presidency came by to say "Hi" and get to know me a little bit (so nice of them!) and during the conversation I found out that one of their sons (happens to be one of the families that lives down the street from us...who brought us cookies) also has a growth disorder (Pan....something something...has to do with his pituitary glands) and he has been on Growth Hormone Therapy since he was a baby (he's a teenager now). And when I was talking about some of the problems we've had with Zoe she knew exactly what I was talking about and how it felt and I almost burst into tears right there just knowing that there is somebody living down the street from me who completely understands what we've been going through with Zoe and what we WILL be going through with the Growth Hormones.
And so now on to the marathon. I'M RUNNING A MARATHON THIS WEEKEND! I'm scared, excited, nervous, and ready as I'll ever be. Bring it on!
One of the reasons we fell in love with our house is the great jogging paths that lead right up to our street. All of the pictures below are just within a half mile to a mile away from our house. Running is so exciting here!
That is great! I know that Heavenly Father helped us pick this home. It sounds like it was the same for you. Life is awesome, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK this weekend! I'll be thinking about you! Sounds like things are going well for you guys, even though I get a little jealous when you make new friends. :)

ReplyDeleteAwesome. I love the trails and I'm a little jealous, too. That's cool about the family in the ward with the growth issues.
