As Mike mentioned in the previous post, we had a trip to the dentist yesterday. I was scared too but I went first while Mike stayed in the waiting room with Zoe so I was able to get it over with while Mike had to sit sweating it out. After a thorough cleaning and the good news of no cavities, Mike and I swapped places.
While Mike was getting assaulted by the dentist Zoe and I had a great time in the waiting room. It was late in the afternoon by the time Mike went in so there weren't many patients coming through. The staff obviously didn't have very much to do because for the 45 minutes that Mike was back there with the dentist, everybody else was hanging out with me and Zoe. I mean hanging out literally. They all came out from the behind the counter into the waiting area to talk and play with Zoe. Even the dentists came out to play with her when they saw her, including the dentist that was supposed to be seeing Mike (making him wait). And of course, Zoe was eating it all up. She was jabbering away, smiling, laughing, and just being cute.
More than half the staff all either had really young kids themselves or had really young grandchildren so we were all comparing sizes and stories. If I remember correctly, three of them had a child/grandchild right around 7 months old. Of course, they couldn't believe how small Zoe was for her age but they just loved her little delicate features.
What was so odd was that they didn't just talk to us from behind the counter, they broke through the patient-staff barrier known as the counter and were sitting on the couches with us chatting (including the dentists). It was kind of weird being surrounded by people in scrubs...while not being a patient. They were so social! It was the funnest trip to the dentist I've ever had. If we were staying here we'd stick with this dentist. And they are definitely getting a Christmas card!
