Then on Wednesday Zoe woke up in the morning with a rash all over her face, stomach, and back. What?!?!
The fever was completely gone at that point but what the heck was this rash? By the time I got her to the pediatrician that morning the rash had spread to her arms and down to her thighs.
As the pediatrician was looking at Zoe's rash and I was explaining to her about Zoe's fever and then how it went away and then Zoe woke up with the rash she was said, "I think she has this thing called Rosiola.". I knew it! I had already done some research at home and also called Mike's brother, who is a Dermatologist. But then, right as she was saying this about Rosiola, the nurse came in with the results of the strep test (that she had done as soon as we got there) and said it was positive (strep can also cause a rash). So now the doc. was like, "Hmmmm, it looks and acts like Rosiola but the strep is positive...". So they took another swab of Zoe's throat to send off to the lab to get a definitive answer on the strep because the one they did in the office on Wednesday could have been a false positive.
So we don't know yet if Zoe has Rosiola or Strep. We're waiting to get the test results back. We'll get them by Saturday. But we can't take Zoe anywhere because if she has Strep, she's really contagious until she's been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
The rash is almost gone at this point. And the fever is still gone. There isn't any we can do (or could have done) for the Rosiola. It's one of those things that needs to run its course.
This is the day before the fever started. Zoe's friend, Lilly, came over to play and Lilly stubbed her toe so they both have ice packs on their feet.
After Lilly left Zoe crashed on the couch. This is the first time Zoe has ever fallen asleep on the couch.
Silly Zoe being silly.
oh the joys of parenting, right?!?! i was up with canon for two hours last night trying to figure out what the heck was making him so upset. when he woke up this morning his ear was draining nasty fluid. ear infection it is. get well zoe!
ReplyDeleteSounds like scarlet fever to me. That is a rash manefestation of a strep infection. But my accounting degree may not qualify me to make the diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte had Roseola last year. I don't think we've ever have dealt with strep, but I don't think that would be fun. I hope Lily doesn't get sick too!
ReplyDeleteThis is so bizarre because Gunner had the EXACT same symptoms this past week!!
ReplyDeleteMark had strep once and we didn't know. He never once complained about a sore throat. He ended up with a little rash on his tummy that still flairs up once in a while.
ReplyDeleteWhen Alex was little like Zoe (well not that little :) he had the same symptoms you described. They gave him antibiotics because they thought it 'might' be strep. He broke out in a rash all over his body. They are not sure if it was Roseola or an allergic reaction.
Not that any of this helps, I just thought you might be interested in these two experiences.
Hope she is feeling better now.
